Alonso single minded on title demands
CHAMPIONSHIP leader Fernando Alonso insists he will not waste energy worrying about the multitude of title permutations as the season reaches its climax in Abu Dhabi this weekend.
The Ferrari driver needs to finish in the top two to guarantee his third world championship, but three other drivers, including Englishman Lewis Hamilton, could yet snatch his crown.
Red Bull pair Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel are his closest rivals, and both could usurp him in the final race – not that Alonso is entertaining the prospect.
“I will not use one second of my energy this weekend thinking what is going to happen on Sunday afternoon,” said the Spaniard.
“There is much to do on Friday and Saturday, preparing for the weekend in the right way.
“Our only goal at this moment is to win the race or finish second. That’s the target, and that’s what I think we can achieve this weekend.”
Webber has led for much of the season but looks likely to miss out on what would be his first world title.
