Aldi ramps up online ordering and home delivery after wine ecommerce success with “special buy” electricals and more
After kicking off the year by dipping its toe in the water with wine, Aldi is now expanding its range of products available to order online for home delivery for the as the supermarket hailed its success.
The German discounter which is challenging the big four bricks and mortar supermarkets revealed plans to challenge them in the online world too, late last year.
Now, it's heralded the foray into wine a success after just seven weeks, welcoming more than one million users a week, and "a significant proportion of users based in London and the south east" the company said.
“People told us they were excited by the prospect of being able to buy our wines online and that sentiment has been reflected in the surge of visitors to our website, with many of the orders coming from areas of Britain that don’t currently have many Aldi stores," said joint managing director of buying Jonathan Neale.
The so-called special buy's are now available, and include items such as a Dyson handheld vacuum, a coffee machine, food mixer and Nutribullet-stlye blender.
Aldi today proved the strongest growing supermarket in the UK along with Lidl, with sales growing 15.1 per cent according to the latest figures from Kantar.
