Admiring Wenger confirms new contract for evergreen Rosicky
ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger has hailed the influence of Tomas Rosicky and revealed that the Czech playmaker has agreed a contract extension.
Rosicky, 33, scored his third goal of the season as the Gunners recovered from a midweek European defeat with a 4-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday.
It prompted Wenger to compare Rosicky to the watching Dennis Bergkamp – in town for the unveiling of a statue in his honour – and state his admiration for the midfielder.
“Tomas Rosicky will stay. We have an agreement with him. It will come out soon. I’m absolutely adamant that he has to stay at the club,” he said.
“He plays really the game we love: give and move. He is as well an accelerator of the game. When the ball gets to him you always think: ‘It’s second gear now’. He always makes things happen – not with individual dribbling, but with acceleration of his passing, of his runs.
“When he arrived here [in 2006] he was less a tactical player; he was purely a creative offensive player. Today he is a real organiser on the pitch as well.”
Wenger declined to comment on when he might announce his own new contract, with agreement believed to have been reached on a new three-year deal.
