Giant waves battered the coastline in eastern provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu this weekend
ONE OF the most powerful typhoons to strike eastern China in decades weakened yesterday as it moved towards the northwestern coast of the Korean Peninsula, leaving heavy rain and flooding in its wake.

More than one million people were evacuated from the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu as typhoon Chan-Hom saw winds reach over 101 miles per hour, disrupting more than 600 flights and forcing 51,000 ships to be called into ports.

No casualties have been reported yet, state media said.
