Zola keeps the faith with his Hammers
BOSS Gianfranco Zola insisted he wasn’t concerned about his side’s lowly league position after the Hammers slipped to another defeat.
Goals in each half from Louis Saha and Dan Gosling subjected Zola’s men to a third home loss of the season despite a Tony Hibbert own goal setting up a rousing finale.
With Hull beating Stoke, it now means the Hammers are back in the Premier League relegation zone, but the Italian boss remains confident his side can turn things around.
“I am not worried because I think we can certainly improve the situation,” Zola said. “We are going to fight until the end and we will find the solutions and we will find them as quickly as possible. I am confident and I trust the players. We are determined to make things different, and that is what matters.”
Zola, however, was at a loss as to how his side, clearly missing injured striker Carlton Cole, could lose a game in which they dominated long periods. “We have to find out straight away what is not working well, because it is not doing us any favours,”he added.
The Hammers started the stronger but it was Everton who took the lead against the run of play on 27 minutes when Saha fired home from Tim Cahill’s lay-off.
Gosling then doubled the visitors’ lead on 62 minutes after seeing his initial shot saved by Hammers keeper Robert Green, but within a minute the home side had replied when Hibbert sliced into his own net.
Zavon Hines missed two glorious chances to bring the hosts level but the Toffees held on for their first victory in eight games.
