Yann hangs his head as Bluebirds swoop to final
CARDIFF CITY (2) vs LEICESTER CITY (3)
3-3 aet, Cardiff win 4-3 on pens
LEICESTER’S Yann Kermorgant chose the wrong time for showboating as Cardiff City won through to the Championship play-off final after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
The Frenchman tried a cheeky chip in a tense sudden death, but Cardiff keeper David Marshall stood up to make a simple save.
In the end, it handed the cash-strapped Bluebirds a Wembley final against Blackpool on 22 May – a game worth an estimated £90m to the winners.
The Welsh side, however, should have put the tie to bed early on after Michael Chopra doubled his side’s 1-0 first-leg lead.
The Foxes, though, fought back with Matty Fryatt, a Mark Hudson own goal and Andy King turning the tables before Peter Whittingham’s penalty levelled the tie again.
Marshall followed up his shoot-out save from Kermorgant with a second from Martyn Waghorn to seal victory.
