World Cup in brief
Del Bosque defends Spain squad
SPAIN boss Vincent del Bosque insists he has no regrets regarding squad selection. Manchester City pair Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas were among the big-name absentees from the 23-man squad. But Del Bosque said: “I don’t think it would have changed the fundamentals very much. This ending was unthinkable.”
Scapegoat Balotelli not for sale
AC MILAN say they have no plans to sell striker Mario Balotelli this summer after he was made a scapegoat by Italy fans for their World Cup exit. Balotelli scored once in three matches and would have been suspended for their last-16 match having incurred two bookings. But chief executive Adriano Galliani said: “Balotelli will remain at Milan.”
Argentina sweating on Aguero
ARGENTINA fear striker Sergio Aguero could miss the remainder of their World Cup campaign with a thigh injury. The Manchester City frontman limped off in the first half of this week’s 3-2 win against Nigeria. Argentina play Switzerland on Tuesday.
