Wilshere back to aid Arsenal push
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger hopes midfielder Jack Wilshere will be fit enough to help his team launch a potentially season-defining 12 days with victory at Liverpool tomorrow.
Wilshere, who has missed the last two matches with an ankle injury, is in contention to return for the top-flight clash as the Gunners begin a period in which they meet Manchester United, Liverpool again in the FA Cup, and Bayern Munich.
Midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Kim Kallstrom are missing through injury, while Mathieu Flamini is suspended, but Wenger hopes Wilshere’s return can tip the balance in Arsenal’s favour.
“Most of the time these games are decided by players who come on or strong players who have a big statement in the game,” he said. “In the big games it is always decided by having the complete squad available.”
The biggest threat to Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table could be the division’s top-scorer Luis Suarez, who Wenger has no regrets about failing to land in the summer, despite a bid of £40,000,001.
“It is just a situation that did not come off and that is it,” he said. “For us the important thing is to win.”
