Williams’ conqueror Cornet set to take Centre stage once more
FRANCE’S Alize Cornet dumped world No1 Serena Williams out of Wimbledon on Saturday and faces an immediate return to the action when she is first on Centre Court today to play Canadian rising star Eugenie Bouchard.
With Williams’ exit following second seed Li Na’s early flight home, world No3 Simona Halep is the highest ranked player left in the competition, while Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova are the only two former champions still in the draw. Sharapova is now favourite to win the trophy 10 years after her last title and plays No9 seed Angelique Kerber on Court One today in the standout tie of the fourth round.
Before their clash, Andy Murray’s potential quarter-final opponents, Grigor Dimitrov and Leonardo Mayer, go head-to-head. The day’s most eye-catching match though, is last on Centre Court where 2011 champion Novak Djokovic, hampered by a shoulder injury, plays No14 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
