I’m sure it’s being done as a way to fight back against the competition. There are groups of shoppers who chase the cheapest deal, so this may encourage more customer loyalty.

It’s Tesco’s trump card. Whether it will attract away from the competition is another matter. WM Morrison doesn’t have a loyalty card and it hasn’t stopped it from driving sales.

Clubcard has been rather stale and it’s a way of boosting its lagging sales which have recently been trailing its competitors. But it will always be tough to boost market share at the top.
