Where to drink
CONTINUING FROM last week’s column on updated, re-invigorated and re-imagined private members’ clubs, one of the most illustrious in recent years is the exclusive Home House in Marylebone.
After introducing The Vaults at House 21 earlier this year, it will completely update House 19, a destination for entertaining, drinking and dining. Dovetailing seamlessly with the Georgian opulence of the main club, the new design by Martin Kemp offers an art strewn, fireplace-equipped drinking den and views across Portman Square. Sip classic cocktails in comfortable dark grey banquettes in a charcoal-panelled, deep peppermint green setting. Alternatively head to the restaurant for superlative modern British cuisine from acclaimed Executive Chef Jeremy Brown. You could say that The Club at the Ivy encouraged this renaissance of the members club but the more recent relaunch of The Arts Club on Dover Street has raised the bar even further. Following its revitalisation, it has become one of the most sought-after destinations in Mayfair. Where the original was underpinned by members like Rodin and Charles Dickens, the current incarnation has seen the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz.
