WHAT RUPERT MURDOCH SAID: BEST OF THE REST
● [The News of the World] was interested in coverage of celebrities, yes. Salacious gossip? Certainly not.
● Spreading myths about Murdochs has become an industry, which I hope the Leveson inquiry will put to bed.
● I may not be able to know what every journalist is writing, but it is certainly the duty of the editor to take responsibility for every word in his newspaper.
● I do not tell journalists to promote our TV channels or films. Read NY Post’s reviews of Fox films – they kill them.
● The phone hacking scandal is a serious blot on my reputation.
● Asking Prime Ministers for favours would be unethical, that’s why I didn’t do it. Ask them.
● I am guilty of not paying enough attention to the News of the World.
● I nearly went broke – I even mortgaged my apartment in New York.
● I stand by every word of [my comments about Gordon Brown].
