Commonwealth Games: What to look out for in first few days of Glasgow 2014

Sir Bradley Wiggins will bid for his first Commonwealth Games gold medal on day one in the track cycling team pursuit alongside England colleagues Ed Clancy, Steven Burke and Andy Tennant; England’s Brownlee brothers, Olympic champion Alistair and former world champion Jonny, and Jodie Stimpson all have triathlon medal ambitions; Scottish swimmer Michael Jamieson will go for gold in the 200m breaststroke

 

England boast multiple medal hopes in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, with Laura Trott, Dani King, Joanna Rowsell, Jason Kenny, Phil Hindes and Steve Burke in various track cycling disciplines; two English swimming medallists from the last Games in Delhi, Fran Halsall and Liam Tancock, compete in the pool; 17-year-old Amber Hill of England shoots for gold in the skeet at Barry Buddon on the Scottish east coast near Carnoustie 

 

Weightlifter Zoe Smith, who won bronze in 2010, aims for a second Commonwealth medal in the women’s 58kg; rugby sevens at Ibrox with England in the same pool as Australia, Uganda and Sri Lanka; the penultimate day of track cycling sees Trott, King, Rowsell, Clancy and Burke all compete

 

Double Olympic champion Mo Farah looks to win the first of two gold medals when he represents England in the 5,000m; more medals on offer for English cyclists – women’s sprint and points race, men’s scratch and keirin – as track action ends; England will hope to feature in the rugby sevens finals
