We can get at nervy United, claims Carroll
FORMER Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll believes current employers Olympiacos can capitalise on the Premier League champions’ frailties and reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
United travel to the Karaiskakis Stadium in Greece tonight, where their hosts have a 100 per cent winning record in the Super League this term and are a mammoth 20 points clear at the top of the table.
By contrast, United trail Premier League leaders Chelsea by 15 points and have failed to win in seven of their 11 matches in all competitions since the turn of the year.
And Carroll, who made 49 league appearances in four years at Old Trafford, revealed that his team are confident of progressing over two legs.
“We have been working on United’s defensive problems in recent days,” said Carroll, Olympiacos’ No2 goalkeeper.
“They look nervous. Every time you watch them this season you just feel that the opposition will score.
“I have been surprised by their form this season. It’s nearly the same squad which won the league last year, but a new manager was always going to be a huge change no matter who they appointed.
“We believe we can do well in these two games and we feel we can get at them.”
Olympiacos are set to be without injured top goalscorer Javier Saviola for the first leg. Joel Campbell, on loan from Arsenal, and prolific Nigerian forward Michael Olaitan are set to start.
An area of the stadium will be closed as punishment for “the racist conduct of supporters” during a group match.
