Watch out on the first day of the month: 1 December is the date during the festive season when most accidents happen
You better watch out but you might want to cry: 1 December is the date in the festive season when Brits are most likely to suffer an accident at home.
According to figures from Allianz Insurance, almost double the number of households report having an accident on this day compared to the average for the rest of the month.
“The last thing anyone wants is to ruin Christmas by having an accident at home right at the start of the festivities,” warned Tim Pitts, head of product (home and motor) at Allianz Insurance. “We see a noticeable increase in claims for accidents over the Christmas period and see all manner of accidents from tripping over loose rugs, and spilling gravy all over the carpet, to dropping new electrical gadgets in the bath as well as Christmas trees causing fires.
“It’s the time of year when we are busy and have a lot on our minds which also makes people more accident prone.”
Fortunately, your Christmas Day gathering is statistically less likely to be ruined, with 25 December ranking 17th for days most likely to have accidents on.
However, you might want to watch your step the night before, as Christmas Eve places as the fourth most likely day to have an accident in the home on. Second and third place are held by 10 and 15 December respectively.
