Wasps take aim at play-offs with win over Exeter
WASPS boss Dai Young believes that the club have tightened their grip on the top six with yesterday’s win over Exeter and has refused to rule out finishing in the play-off places.
Young’s side improved their hopes of securing European qualification with a 36-29 win over their play-off rivals at the Ricoh Arena. An early try from Christian Wade, a penalty try award and four successfully kicked penalties gave the hosts a 26-16 lead at half-time. The Chiefs battled back with Henry Slade scoring 16 points, before a fourth Andy Goode penalty put Wasps back in control. And an excellent late breakaway try from scrum-half Joe Simpson secured all four points.
Young said: “We’ve got one foot in the top six but there are no easy games in the Premiership. If we can beat Leicester next up then we can cement our place and go into the last game against London Irish and give the top four a real crack.”
Victory took Wasps eight points clear of Sale in seventh. They are now just two points behind fifth-placed Exeter and three off Leicester, in fourth, with two games remaining.
