Waitrose sees sales surge
Waitrose has seen sales growth, excluding petrol, of 11.6 per cent for the 13 weeks to the end of April. The supermarket giant said that like for like branch sales are up 3.4 per cent (including VAT), in a trading update. Waitrose said that it has seen a surge in sales of party food as general election viewers stocked up for the night. Sales at the 228-store chain, week to 1 May sales increased 11.2 per cent to 96.3m, underscoring its status as one of the UK’s fastest growing grocers.
