Virgin Media boosts Tivo users after deal for BT’s sport channels
NEARLY half of Virgin Media’s customers are now using Tivo, with hundreds of thousands signing up to the service in the past year, according to the company’s first results as part of Liberty Global.
The telecoms giant has added 679,000 new subscribers to the service since the third quarter last year, and 165,000 between July and September alone. They now make up 49 per cent of Virgin Media’s 3.8m TV subscribers. The results also mark the first full quarter since the firm acquired the right to broadcast BT Sport.
The company made £1.023bn in revenue, with like-for-like growth of two per cent compared to the same quarter last year.
Liberty Global, which completed its $24bn purchase of Virgin Media over the summer, said its losses widened to $830m in the quarter due to losses on investments.
