Van Ginkel out for six months after knee op
CHELSEA have confirmed £8.4m summer signing Marco van Ginkel faces six months on the sidelines following anterior cruciate ligament surgery yesterday.
The 20-year-old midfielder went under the knife having injured his knee in the 10th minute of Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup third round victory at Swindon.
Van Ginkel was making just his second Blues start since moving from Vitesse Arnhem, but is unlikely to play again before April.
“Chelsea Football Club can confirm Marco van Ginkel successfully underwent anterior cruciate ligament surgery today [Thursday],” a statement read.
“The 20-year-old midfielder is expected to be out for approximately six months.
“Van Ginkel suffered the knee injury during the first half of our Capital One Cup match at Swindon on Tuesday evening.”
Van Ginkel’s replacement at the County Ground Ramires was forced off with a hip injury at half-time and is a major doubt for tomorrow’s trip to Tottenham.
