US consumer confidence weathers the storm in February

US consumers were more upbeat over the wintery spell than many thought they would be, particularly when it came to economic outlook.
Consumer sentiment in the US was better-than-expected in February as the Reuters/Michigan consumer sentiment index stayed at 81.2.
Analysts had been expecting a fall to 80.6 from 81.2 in January.
Positive feelings about the current economic conditions waned, as wages stagnated and markets were volatile. But consumers were feeling bullish about outlook, showing resilience despite various upheavals.
Having said that, survey director Richard Cutin warned that elevated heating bills could start to impact how much people spend, and how confident they are.
