United hero Hernandez leaves Sir Alex clueless
MANCHESTER UNITED 3 vs BRAGA 2
MANCHESTER United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits he is clueless about how to accommodate his striking talent after Javier Hernandez’s brace helped snatch victory from two goals down last night at Old Trafford.
Brazilian midfielder Alan scored twice in the first 20 minutes to give Braga a sniff of a huge Champions League upset, but two Hernandez headers, either side of defender Jonny Evans’ close-range finish, spared United’s blushes.
“He’s improving all the time,” said Sir Alex of Hernandez. “I must say he’s got me thinking about he, [Robin] Van Persie, and [Wayne] Rooney and [Danny] Welbeck. I don’t know what to do with them.”
The Portuguese visitors ran United’s defence ragged early on, Alan heading home a left-wing cross, and sidefooting in his second effort low and hard.
But Hernandez soon stretched to nod in Shinji Kagawa’s chip and, after Evans swept home amid confusion at a corner, met Tom Cleverley’s excellent searching centre to complete the reversal 15 minutes from time.
