Unions reject Tube talks
TUBE unions embroiled in a bitter dispute with London Underground (LU) have refused a call by the public transport body to resume talks aimed at averting another strike.
Transport unions the RMT and Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA), which together represent over 10,000 Tube workers, said proposals made by LU “do not go far enough to resume talks”.
The unions confirmed that three planned 24-hour strike periods for 3 October, 2 November and 28 November would go ahead.
LU management called on RMT and TSSA yesterday to restart talks at conciliation service Acas in a bid to reach an agreement over plans to axe up to 800 station staff.
Leaders from RMT and TSSA met with senior management from LU earlier this week, but after six hours neither side could reach an agreement.
