Unemployment dips to 7.9 per cent
UK jobless numbers fell by 50,000 over the three months to September, marking a 7.9 per cent unemployment rate.
Official figures out this morning from the Office for National Statistics show that the employment rate edged up by 0.5 per cent over the period, at 71.3 per cent of the population.
The statistics office added that the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance fell to 1.57m in September, down 4,000 month on month, and down 21,800 year on year.
