Under fire fund boss grabs top gong at awards
IT’S BEEN a good couple of weeks for Alliance Trust chief exec Katherine Garrett-Cox. First of all she survives a challenge to her authority from US activist investor Elliott Advisors. And secondly, last night, she won the coveted Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award for 2015.
While some shareholders remain underwhelmed by Garrett-Cox’s performance during recent years, the judges were more than happy to pour praise over the investment trust boss.
“In just over three years, under her leadership, the combined assets of Alliance Trust and Alliance Trust Investments have doubled to £5.6bn,” a statement read. “Part of this growth has come from the development of Alliance Trust Investments, a third party asset management business, which Katherine established.”
Accepting her award, Garrett-Cox said: “To have won the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award is a massive honour. So many exceptional women have been recognised over its 43- year history, and I’m proud to be able to celebrate and shine a light on female success in financial services.”
