UK ready for Obama visit
President Obama will hold crunch talks with David Cameron on Wednesday to discuss the global economy and the allied response to the conflicts in the Middle East.
Obama will arrive in the UK tomorrow morning, when he is scheduled to meet with the Queen in Buckingham Palace.
He will then go to Westminster Abbey to meet both David Cameron and Ed Miliband. The full meeting with Cameron will be held the following day.
The trip will stress the importance of the “special relationship” between the US and the UK, with Obama’s press director saying “There’s no closer ally for the United States in the world.”
He added: “we are coordinating with them and closely aligned with them on issues ranging from our efforts in Afghanistan, our counterterrorism efforts, our ongoing efforts in Libya, our G20 agenda, and our nonproliferation activities.”
Before arriving in the UK, Obama will visit Ireland, where he will meet with President McAleese and Prime Minister Enda Kenny.
He will arrive in France for the G8 meetings on Thursday where he will also meet President Medvedev of Russia, before flying to Poland.
