UK publishers plan to charge online
The majority of digital publishers in the UK are planning to charge for content online in the next 12 months, according to a survey released yesterday by the Association of Online Publishers. Around 70 per cent of publishers from across the newspaper, magazine and TV industries said they would charge for some content. This compares to 46 per cent in 2007, before the advertising slump hit revenues. One in three of those who plan to charge said that they would adopt a pay-as-you-go, or micropayment system. Meanwhile, more than half of the 28 companies represented said that they are using Twitter to publish content.
