Uber’s getting sued again, and this time it’s in Canada
The Canadian province of Ontario is the latest place where ride-sharing app Uber is being sued by disgruntled taxi drivers.
Toronto taxi drivers have launched a class action suit seeking more than C$400m (£198m) in damages and an injunction to stop it operating.
Law firm Sutts, Strosberg LLP, which is representing the taxi drivers, told Reuters that they think "Uber X and Uber XL have created an enormous marketplace for illegal transportation in Toronto".
"This protectionist suit is without merit," an Uber spokesperson said.
"As we saw from a recent court ruling in Ontario, Uber is operating legally and is a business model distinct from traditional taxi services."
Uber has come under heavy scrutiny in cities such as London and New York as authorities weigh the legality of its phone-based app.
