UAE ruler’s brother missing in glider crash
RESCUE workers were yesterday searching an artificial lake in Morocco for the brother of the President of the United Arab Emirates.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed al Nahyan, the managing director of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, has been missing following a glider accident.
The pilot of the glider has been rescued.
Sheikh Ahmed, 40, took charge of ADIA in 1997. He also sits on Abu Dhabi’s top oil body, the Supreme Petroleum Council.
His brother, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is the ruler of Abu Dhabi, the wealthy capital of the UAE, home to more than 90 per cent of the nation’s oil reserves.
Earlier this month, Adia, released its first annual review in which it stated its 20-year and 30-year annualised rate of returns to the end of 2009 were 6.5 per cent and 8 per cent respectively.
Another brother, Sheikh Nasser, died in a helicopter crash in 2008.
