Tube drivers to go ahead with 24-hour strike
A 24-HOUR tube strike by London Underground workers will “definitely go-ahead” after Union bosses said they had not been given enough time to consider a new pay offer.
London Underground is currently involved in last-ditch talks with four unions – RMT, Aslef, TSSA and Unite – to try and come to a deal that will prevent 20,000 drivers from striking.
Unions were given until 6.30pm yesterday to respond to the new increased and “final” offer, which includes a two per cent pay rise this year and bonuses of £2,000 for drivers and £500 for other staff working on the night Tube services.
However, a negotiator for Aslef said they have not been given enough time to consider the offer and confirmed plans to press ahead with the strike.
RMT called the new offer “divisive and unacceptable” and said that a meeting of its executive will take place today where a recommendation will be made to reject the offer.
The strike is scheduled to run from 6.30pm on 8 July until 6.30pm on 9 July.
