Trump cancels meeting with Putin over Ukraine crisis
US President Donald Trump has cancelled a meeting with Russian leader Vladmir Putin after the Russian navy seized two Ukranian vessels.
The leaders were due to meet at the G20 in Argentina over the weekend, and the meeting was confirmed earlier today by the Kremlin.
However, this afternoon Trump cancelled the meeting, citing Russian aggression in the Black Sea.
Russia has been accused of taking hostage two vessels and their crew, after claiming they strayed into its waters off the coast of Crimea on Sunday.
Vladimir Putin yesterday laid the blame at Ukraine’s door, claiming President Petro Poroshenko had orchestrated the crisis to boost his ailing poll figures.
Trump said on Twitter: “Based on the fact that the ships and sailors have not been returned to Ukraine from Russia, I have decided it would be best for all parties concerned to cancel my previously scheduled meeting in Argentina with President Vladimir Putin.
“I look forward to a meaningful summit again as soon as this situation is resolved!”
