Troubled Serco strengthens its board with three new directors
SCANDAL-TAINTED outsourcing giant Serco yesterday unveiled the appointment of three new eminent non-executive directors, after hiring a new chief executive at the end of last week.
The FTSE 100 firm has hired Rachel Lomax, former deputy governor of the Bank of England, Mike Clasper, former chief executive of BAA and Tamara Ingram, executive vice president at advertising giant WPP.
Lomax, who has also held the roles of permanent secretary at both the department for transport and the department for work and pensions, will also become chair of the corporate responsibility committee, with “responsibility for the ethical and governance oversight of the group”.
“I am delighted that we have secured the services of three individuals who bring a broad range of skills and experience to complement Serco’s current non-executive directors,” said Alastair Lyons, non-executive chairman.
“Each has a great track-record in their particular field of expertise and will add much to the debate around our board table.”
Serco shares soared ten per cent on Friday, after it said it had hired Rupert Soames from FTSE 100 temporary power provider Aggreko as its new chief executive.
The company has struggled to regain its reputation after a turbulent year, involving a fraud investigation relating to a prisoner tagging contract that prevented it from winning new government work. The ban was lifted in January.
