Toyota Prius likely to be recalled over brake fault
TOYOTA is expected to recall thousands of Prius hybrid cars in Japan and the US in the next few days to fix a fault with the brakes.
The Japanese carmaker has already recalled more than 8m vehicles worldwide with faulty accelerator pedals. The company’s president, Akio Toyoda, publicly apologised for the problems on Friday.
The brake problem is thought to mainly affect 270,000 Priuses sold in the US and Japan since it went on the market last May. Toyota has blamed a computer software glitch and says it fixed the problem last month.
According to Japanese reports, Toyota has already told car dealers in Japan that it wants to recall the latest Prius model, its flagship green car.
It is likely there will also be a recall for around 3,500 Prius cars that have been sold in the UK.
