Toure’s old side among six in Uefa Financial Fair Play probe
SIX football clubs are facing fines or possible European bans after being referred for further investigation in relation to Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules by governing body Uefa.
Portuguese top-flight side Vitoria, Ukraine’s Metalurh Donetsk – the former club of Manchester City star Yaya Toure – and Latvian league runners-up FC Skonto are among the teams being probed.
Slask Wroclaw of Poland and Romanian outfits CS Pandurii Targu Jiu and FC Petrolul Ploiesti are the others subject to further scrutiny.
Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body investigatory chamber, which is chaired by former prime minister of Belgium Jean-Luc Dehaene, is due to rule on any possible punishment before the end of the year.
Metalurh Donetsk and FC Skonto were also both among six clubs to have prize money withheld by Uefa earlier this season, pending investigation of possible overdue payables, but have now had their cash unfrozen by Uefa.
The measures are part of Uefa president Michel Platini’s pledge to reduce debts and restrain spending among clubs across Europe.
