Tottenham v Chelsea betting odds: Improving Blues can blunt Spurs attack and take a point from White Hart Lane
The visit of Chelsea used to be the stuff of nightmares for Tottenham.
They failed to win a single Premier League game against the Blues at White Hart Lane in 17 matches between 1989 and 2006.
Since then, however, things have changed.
Chelsea have only one victory in their last nine league visits, with Tottenham winning four of those fixtures.
The most recent of those, a 5-3 thriller on New Year’s Day this year, saw Harry Kane come of age as he ran rings around John Terry and scored twice in a famous victory.
With Terry injured and Chelsea struggling for form this term, Spurs will be fired up again on Sunday lunchtime.
The home side are unbeaten in 12 league games and sit just outside the Champions League places.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are languishing in 15th having already lost seven league games in a calamitous campaign.
However, there have been signs of improvement in their two games since the international break.
Wins over Norwich and Maccabi Tel Aviv have coincided with improved performances from the likes of Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas.
Jose Mourinho has put increased importance on a firm defence and, buoyed by two clean sheets in a row for the first time this season, Chelsea will be difficult to beat.
A cagey, low-scoring game will suit Mourinho perfectly, and he’ll be happy to take a point back to Stamford Bridge.
The draw is 12/5 with Betway and that’s where my money is going.
Tottenham are likely to settle for any result that extends their unbeaten streak, coming off a long trip to Azerbaijan in the Europa League last night.
As much as it would be exciting to have a repeat of last term’s eight goal thriller, I can’t see it this time.
Betway also offer 9/2 for a result of 1-1, the scoreline here in three of the last five Premier League contests, and I think that’s a decent bet.
I’ll be looking to sell total goals at 2.6 with Sporting Index.
