Top jockey Dettori facing D-Day in hearing over failed drug test
JOCKEY Frankie Dettori faces a possible six-month ban today when he appears before French horse racing chiefs over a failed drug test.
Dettori, the best-known name in flat racing for the past two decades, tested positive for a non-performance-enhancing substance at Longchamp in September, his solicitor has said.
The three-time Champion Jockey faces a six-month suspension if found guilty by France Galop. Other racing bodies worldwide would be expected to apply similar bans.
Dettori, 41, split from Godolphin last month after 18 years with the thoroughbred stable and had planned to pursue his career as a freelance rider next year.
The British-based Italian’s positive test came on 16 September, when he had four rides on a day of trials for October’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
