Top holiday destinations 2016: Hull named a must visit city alongside Reykjavik, Mexico City and Seoul
A city which became infamous as a "crap town" has been named as one of the top 10 destinations to visit in 2016.
Hull joins remote and exotic getaways such as Icelandic capital Reykjavik and Agra in India as one of the top cities to head to this year, according to Rough Guides, ahead of a big year for the Yorkshire City when it becomes the UK Capital of Culture in 2017.
In 2003 it was ranked top in the book Crap Towns and even voted the least romantic place in the UK in 2015, but now "It’ll be brimming with new hotels and restaurants, and even more of that distinctive home-grown creativity the city has always had," the guide says.
