BHP Billiton’s $39bn hostile bid for Canadian company Potash Corporation has led to some speculative investors jumping on board the Loonie train. Dollar-Cad was trading above C$1.04 as the news started to break on Tuesday, but by lunchtime yesterday, trading was below C$1.0280, as speculators gambled that demand for Canadian dollars caused by the deal would see further weakness in dollar-Cad. C$1.0360 should prove to be a strong resistance level on the upside, but if C$1.0268 gives way, then C$1.010 is the likely target. Spread Co offers a spread on dollar-Cad of C$1.0320-C$1.0324.
