the INSIDER
WITH no racing on Good Friday we had three small cards to look at today. However, Wincanton was abandoned yesterday and it’s possible that Folkestone may go as well, so keep an eye on oddschecker.com to make sure that the meeting is still on.
Harlech Castle is bidding for a four-timer in the 3.40pm and the going shouldn’t be too much of a problem for a horse running off a rating eight pounds lower than his all-weather mark. Signore Momento ran very credibly in Ireland last year on this type of going and Amy Weaver’s small stable may have him in good enough condition to trouble the judge. However, the two I like are the front running 12-year-old Idle Power and DADDY’S GIFT (3%), who I expect to take advantage of being given a good tow.
I’ve narrowed the field for next week’s Grand National down to just four, but looking at the betting on oddschecker.com, I’m not the only one! Two of the horses I like will either be their current price or longer on the day, possibly not at the off, whilst the other two I can see being shortened before next week. So with that in mind have a 2% e/w bet on both horses leaving us with the opportunity to either increase our stake or jump ship closer to the off. The two to back in advance and where possible “with a run” would be ARBOUR SUPREME and THE PACKAGE.
