the INSIDER
What a weekend of action. But where will it rain and what will the going be come race time right across the British Isles?
It’s Ayr, Newmarket and Newbury today, they all have great racing but I’m a little concerned that what I’m about to tip now may have little chance by the off. So watch the weather.
Let’s start with the William Hill Bronze Cup (4.30pm) at Ayr this afternoon. I’m pretty sure that if the going is good or good to soft, and there is no bias across the track, then it is between two, AMENABLE (2pts win) and Jeannie Galloway. I’m plumping for the first named as I think Dandy Nicholls has the Midas touch with the draw. Judged on his picks for tomorrow’s Gold Cup, it looks as though high numbers are his decision for this meeting. CHEVETON (0.5pts e/w) could be one to throw a surprise.
The Gold Cup (3.20pm tomorrow) is definitely a weather/going bet. If it remains fine and the going is no softer than good with good to soft patches then I will be backing JONNY MUDBALL (3pts e/w) to confirm his superiority over favourite Poet’s Place. Soft going and other horses have better chances.
CROWN PROSECUTER (5pts win) is a horse I like. I think you can forget all about his run at Goodwood and back him tomorrow in the Mill Reef at Newbury (2.30pm) with confidence.
There is a big two-year-old Sales race at Newmarket tomorrow at 2.55pm. Channel 4’s Jim McGrath has the likely favourite in Sir Reginald, who should prove tough to beat. However, I think both Madawi and MUBTADI (1pt e/w) may prove to be better value, the latter securing my money.
