The drachma makes a City return
■ Many economists have been anticipating the return of the drachma for some time but up until now attempts to use the old Greek currency would have proved futile. However, this week the Real Greek restaurant on Bankside is accepting the drachma for side dishes in a revival of the currency that went out of circulation more than ten years ago.
Diners don’t have to worry about an exchange rate conversion (one suspects the drachma won’t convert favourably against most currencies) because the Real Greek is asking customers to give what they think a dish is worth rather pay a fixed price.
So, it may be time to search out all those old Greek notes and coins.
