Teen unfazed by F1 debut chance
TRAILBLAZER Max Verstappen believes he has already navigated the harshest transition of his career as he prepares to become the youngest Formula One driver in history when he debuts during next year’s championship.
The Dutchman, who does not turn 17 until next month, has been signed to drive for Toro Rosso and is poised to smash the previous record for the youngest driver – currently held by Spain’s Jaime Alguersuari – by almost two years.
Verstappen is the son of former F1 driver Jos and admits the jump to Formula Three, where he currently competes, was a tough career hurdle to clear.
He said: “I think the biggest step I had was Karting to F3, I think F3 to F1 will be a smaller step.”
