Supermarkets brace for fresh CMA criticism in latest phase of pricing super-complaint investigation
The competition watchdog is expected to crack down on pricing in the UK’s supermarkets tomorrow morning.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is set to publish the latest phase of its response to a so-called super-complaint raised last year about predatory pricing tactics by major grocers.
Earlier it was reported by Sky News that Asda has been forced to provide a written commitment to clamp down on promotions such as multi-buys.
The report may also indicate that the Walmart owned retailer refused to co-operate with some aspects of the inquiry.
The CMA declined to comment.
The CMA said in its initial report, released in July last year, that it had discovered “examples of pricing and promotional practices that have the potential to confuse or mislead consumers.”
