SUPER BOWL XLIV
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS Vs INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
PREPARE for an afternoon snooze if you plan to stay up for the 44th installment of America’s greatest sporting spectacle. Super Bowl debutants and the NFC’s top seeds New Orleans Saints (Who Dat?!) face the AFC’s best, Indianapolis Colts – the first time since 1993 that both top seeds square up.
The bookies have got into the party spirit by offering hundreds of special bets, the pick of which is Bodog.co.uk’s ‘colour of the coach’s Gatorade shower’. You can get 10/11 for yellow, 7/4 for clear and 5/1 for orange if you’re interested.
The Colts are around 1/2 but it’s a better idea to back their quarterback Peyton Manning, inset, to be MVP at evens with Ladbrokes. The QB has been MVP in 22 previous Super Bowls and as Manning is so instrumental, it’s a fair bet to happen again should Indy win the game.
It’s set to be a high-scoring thriller so even though the over/under line has been drawn at 56.5 points, it’s still worth betting higher at 10/11. The Colts claim the second-ranked passing offense and the Saints the fourth-best aerial attack, while neither is particularly impressive in defense. An alternative would be to buy Sporting Index’s total touchdown yardage at 145yds – Manning and Saints QB Drew Brees threw 67 touchdowns between them in the regular season.
Manning will be looking for wide-receiver Pierre Garcon at any given opportunity and he’s good value for the first touchdown at 12/1 with Boylesports.
