Suits you, Europe: Ryder Cup in sight
CAPTAIN Paul McGinley is a step closer to revealing Europe’s opening pairings after his side held their latest practice session at Gleneagles yesterday as Ryder Cup anticipation reaches fever pitch.
McGinley, together with vice-captain and long-standing City A.M. columnist Sam Torrance, has already intimated he is likely to split up the familiar partnership of Northern Irish duo Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell for tactical reasons, with the combination only yielding a paltry two wins from six Ryder Cup matches to date.
And while the European skipper is refusing to give anything away before he has to, McGinley is confident he has the players and potential permutations at his disposal to land an eighth Ryder Cup triumph out of the last 10 stagings of the competition when the biennial tournament gets underway with the opening tee shot tomorrow morning.
“It’s pretty much on target with our skeleton plan, we’re on schedule with where we need to be,” said McGinley.
