Strikes hit the City hard
THOUSANDS of commuters on the National Express East Anglia line were hit by the second in a series of 48-hour strikes yesterday, and are set for further chaos today as workers continue to walk out over pay.
The industrial action, which started at midnight on Wednesday night, has hit the City hard, as the affected line is used by thousands to get into the financial district.
More than 200,000 passengers are shuttled between Liverpool Street, Colchester, Southend and Norwich every day.
Both the unions and National Express say they are eager to re-enter talks and end the dispute.
Two more 48-hour strikes are planned for 13-14 August and 20-21 August if the dispute is not settled.
The train operator said it has improved its initial pay offering, and that it has invited negotiator Acas into talks.
