Strettle backs Saracens to come out on top in all or nothing clash
SARACENS winger David Strettle is confident the Londoners will bounce back from last weekend’s Heineken Cup defeat to Toulouse in tomorrow’s winner-takes-all home clash with Connacht.
The victor at Allianz Park can reach the knockout stages as best runner-up, though Sarries’ chance of a home quarter-final was ended with last weekend’s 21-11 defeat in the south of France.
And Strettle, the Aviva Premiership’s top try scorer, is backing Mark McCall’s side to come good in front of their own fans.
“One thing this group has proven in the past is that we respond well to setbacks, so we won’t dwell too much on the defeat,” he said. “We will be facing a very dangerous side. Connacht have proven they are a force to be reckoned with in this pool and we’re looking forward to getting back to Allianz Park to face them.”
Elsewhere, Harlequins’ European challenge is at an end after defeat against Clermont Auvergne at the Stoop last time out.
That means there is little more than pride at stake in Sunday’s trip to Scarlets, though the Welsh outfit still hold hope of taking an Amlin Challenge Cup spot.
In Europe’s second competition, London Wasps head to Viadana knowing qualification to the knockout stages is complete, while London Irish host Cavalieri Prato.
