Strauss eyes ECB boardroom role but refuses to rush his decision
FORMER England captain Andrew Strauss has revealed he is considering putting himself forward to succeed Hugh Morris as managing director of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Strauss, who spent almost four years as skipper before retiring from the sport altogether 12 months ago, plans to decide in the next fortnight whether he wants to join the national governing body.
The 36-year-old former batsman has been working as a television pundit for Sky this year, but his intelligence and diplomacy has long seen him tipped as a future administrator of the game.
“I haven’t decided one way or another whether that’s the right job or the right time for me yet, but I’m certainly looking at it, as a lot of other people will be,” said Strauss.
“I’m looking into it, but they’re decisions that need to be made over the next couple of weeks, and I’ll think quite long and hard about whether it’s the right time and the right job for me.”
Strauss, once touted as a possible Conservative MP, said he had enjoyed broadcasting and remained “very passionate” about the game.
