Storrie lands tax charge
PORTSMOUTH chief executive Peter Storrie was formally charged with tax evasion yesterday over the controversial transfer of Amdy Faye.
Storrie is accused of concealing a signing-on fee made to the Senegalese midfielder via agent Willie McKay.
The charges relate to Faye’s £1.5m transfer to Fratton Park from Auxerre in August 2003 where it is claimed that Faye’s £250,000 signing-on fee was paid via bank accounts of McKay in order to evade the payment of tax and national insurance contributions.
Storrie is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 16 November, the HM Revenue and Customs Prosecution Office said yesterday.
In a statement yesterday, Storrie denied any involvement in the Faye deal, saying: “At the time negotiations to acquire this player were concluded, Mr Storrie was on honeymoon.”
