Spurs set to make £7m Chadli second signing of the summer
BELGIUM winger Nacer Chadli is set to become Tottenham’s second major signing of the summer, after the north London club confirmed yesterday they had agreed a deal with FC Twente.
Chadli, who is predominantly right-footed but comfortable playing on either flank, will cost Spurs £7m, subject to agreeing personal terms, and follows their recent capture of Brazil midfielder Paulinho for £17m.
The 23-year-old scored in both fixtures when Spurs and FC Twente met in the Champions League group stage in 2010 and netted 31 times in 106 games for the Eredivisie side.
A Spurs statement confirmed: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with FC Twente for the transfer of Nacer Chadli. Subject to personal terms and medical, the Belgian international winger will join up with the squad for pre-season training in Hong Kong next week.”
Meanwhile, an injury to striker Kevin de Bruyne overshadowed Chelsea’s 4-1 win against a Malaysian XI yesterday.
After teenager Bertrand Traore had put the Blues in front, De Bruyne fired in a second on 29 minutes, but injured his knee in the process and was consequently stretchered off.
Romelu Lukaku added a third goal before half-time and Victor Moses notched the fourth late on, before Mohd Fadhli Shad hit a consolation to delight the home fans, following an error from Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.
