Spurs pile misery on Rovers boss
BLACKBURN (1) vs TOTTENHAM (2)
TOTTENHAM boss Harry Redknapp urged Blackburn fans to rally behind Steve Kean after deepening the embattled manager’s troubles with victory at Ewood Park.
A fine goal in each half from Rafael van der Vaart eclipsed Mauro Formica’s equaliser, lifted Spurs to fifth and kept Rovers bottom of the Premier League on goal difference.
Blackburn supporters staged protests calling for Kean to be sacked for the third successive home game, but Redknapp lent support to his opposite number.
“The fans have got to stick with him,” he said. “If the players didn’t like him [Kean], they wouldn’t have been playing like they did today. I think it’s unfair.”
Van der Vaart slotted the first on 15 minutes after Kyle Walker’s marauding run and cut-back, only for Formica to volley level into the roof of the net before the half-hour.
The Dutchman had the final say, however, capitalising on a ricochet on the edge of the penalty area to bend home a first-time effort left-footed.
